Year One, Nora Roberts

My kind of book. The idea of a not too distant future where it all goes to hell. An interesting supernatural twist set this apart from some of my other recent reads.
The inevitability of the world’s destruction, and the complete ignorance of the human race of the coming annihilation is sewn into the story from the start. The matter of fact way it’s stated to the reader while the characters remain oblivious is chilling.
‘When Ross McLeod pulled the trigger and brought down the pheasant he had no way of knowing he’d killed himself. And billions of others.’
The plot is detailed and compelling. I found myself really invested in the characters. There was terror, destruction, and in the end, hope.
It was one which has stayed with me after I’d finished it, and I’m intrigued for the next one in the series, although my to be read pile is too high to add anything to just yet!
