The sequel to the Fijian power cut

The Nowhere Man, Gregg Hurwitz

Rating: ♦♦♦♦◊

It only took me a year after having it recommended, and a Fijian power cut, to read the first in this series: Orphan X.

I couldn’t wait to read The Nowhere Man, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I’d characterise the protagonist, Evan Smoak, as a more human Jason Bourne. This was a fast paced read, which kept its depth in terms of plot and characters. It drew together strands from Orphan X, whilst having a strong stand alone story.

It left me keen to read the next instalment, without the irritating ‘cliffhanger for the sake of it’ feel of some series. Gregg Hurwitz didn’t feel the need to wrap everything up neatly, which lent a more realistic edge to his characters. As a result, I’m putting him and Evan up there with Lee Child and Jack Reacher in terms of my ‘must have’ reads.
